whether in Spain or France, we've always worked the land. Pierre Jean has never inherited any vines, but he has harvested grapes, visited cellars, tasted wines and travelled the vineyards with his winegrowing friends.
1992
It was the big move to Burgundy and its prestigious estates, Mommessin, Clos de Tart... Pierre Jean followed the wine from production to marketing.
2003
Pierre Jean returns to the land of his childhood and joins the Vins de Vienne trio. He is the guardian of the temple until 2009.
2009
Pierre Jean sets up his own estate in the heart of the Northern Rhône and begins his new life as a 100% independent winemaker.
Today,
this Rhône Valley estate boasts 20 hectares of major growths on the right and left banks of the Rhône: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and on the slopes of Seyssuel, north of Vienne.
His conviction
is that a great wine is born exclusively from respected soil and fruit.
In the vineyard, his only logic is to safeguard the life of the soil in order to produce wines that are faithful to their terroir.
In the cellar, he accompanies the grapes with low-intervention vinifications: indigenous yeasts, respect for the lunar calendar for racking and bottling.
In the end, the wine must express the delicate balance between the typicality of the terroir and the winemaker's ethic.
Since 2011
the estate has gone organic. As soon as the children arrived, they wanted to validate this virtuous agriculture and certified the estate in 2021. The new generation is now taking the next step: biodynamic viticulture.
Under the impetus of Hugo et Pauline
who joined their parents in 2020 and 2022, they intend to continue the work they have begun: to take this estate, which respects the environment and the terroirs it represents, to the very highest level.
Always looking for new challenges,
curious and passionate about the wine world in which he has worked for over 30 years, Pierre Jean Villa has decided to put his experience and knowledge to good use for winegrowers who want to open up new horizons in the vineyard and in the cellar.
2017
Pierre-Jean Villa creates, with Justin Prudhomme, his faithful technical director: PJ CONSEILS, a consulting company working with various estates between Burgundy and the Mediterranean. From viticulture and winemaking to the creation of winegrowing projects, this complementary pairing works alongside these different winegrowers.
2022
Recognised by his peers as a leading figure in the Northern Rhône, Pierre Jean Villa was elected President of the Condrieu ODG, with the aim of flying the flag for this magnificent appellation in France and around the world.
